If you’ve followed competitive Smash at all in the past few years, chances are you have heard of Ken from the west coast. Ken used to be the world champion in SSBM dominating tournaments in the US, and even outside the country in Japan and Australia. Despite the fact he may not be the world champion anymore after his big loss to PC Chris at MLG NY a couple years ago, and Mew2King stepping up to the plate, Ken has now joined the latest Survivor, which will take him to Gabon, Africa. Being profiled as the stereotypical competitive gamer, it will be interesting to see how far he makes it. You can check out his bio page on NBC’s site here.
One of the new additions to Super Smash Bros Brawl on the Wii is that your character may randomly trip while running. What a terrible idea… Imagine a close battle when all of a sudden you trip into your opponents smash attack! Players have been outraged about this since the game has come out, and now you can show your hatred by wearing this T-Shirt!

You can buy the shirt from Cafe Press here.
Due to reasons such as the state of the economy, DigitalLife 2008 in NY has been postponed. This is perhaps due to the poor showing at 2007 compared to what was seen at 2006. It seems that DigitalLife wasn’t able to get it’s hands on enough big products to grace the show floor.
It’s a shame too as I was planning on attending the show. Whenever they decide to hold it though, I’ll be there. It’s a good thing I didn’t buy my tickets yet!
Famitsu has a couple of pictures comparing the PSP-3000 to the PSP-2000. The difference in the LCD is very noticeable. Because of this, website PSP Fanboy is dubbing the 3000 the “PSP Brite.” I like it, it seems like it will catch on.

Additionally, the back of the system looks a little different.
There is a new Circuit City flyer going around around for the week of September 7th that shows an interesting bit of information. It seems that there will be a price drop for the Xbox 360, especially nothing that it’s price will finally drop below that of the Wii. The Arcade will be $200, 60GB for $300, and the Elite for $400.
Sony won’t stop with the slew of announcements at the Games Convention today! This time it’s the 160GB PS3 which will launch in Europe on October 31st, and in the US later this year. The bundle comes with a 160GB hard drive, a Dualshock 3 controller, a voucher for Pain, and Drakes Fortune all for only $500. Unfortunately though, it seems that the PS3 hardware is based on the lower 80GB unit and features only 2 USB ports, no memory stick reader, and no backwards compatibility.
Similar to what the Xbox 360 already has, Sony announced that they are releasing a keypad for text input on the PS3. This pad will attach to the top of the PS3 controller, most likely through the mini USB port. What’s different from the 360 version however is that this will also feature a touchpad mode for mouse input.
Today at the Leipzig Games Convention, Sony announced a new update to it’s portable. The changes aren’t as drastic as the original to the 2000, but it’s still a welcome update. The PSP-3000 will include a better screen that won’t glare up as much while playing in the sun, and the unit will feature a built in microphone. Besides that, it seems to be the same as the PSP-2000.
The system will be coming to the US on October 19th with the previously announced Ratchet and Clank entertainment pack, and in November in a core pack that comes with a piano black PSP-3000, 4GB Memory Stick PRO Duo, and a voucher for Everyday Shooter. The pack will be only $200.
If you ask anyone what’s wrong with the Xbox 360 controller, the answer you would most expect would be the d-pad. It’s not comfortable, it’s pretty inaccurate, etc. Evidentially a redesigned controller was seen at the Leipzig Games Convention today. The controller is essentially the same, except that a new d-pad is implemented. There has been no official announcement from Microsoft yet.
[Update] The controller is only planned for limited release in Europe, Asia, and Latin America. The controller is an odd green color, and planned to be a promotional tie-in with Pro Evolution Soccer 2009. There is no word yet on a US release.
